Team building exercises tend to be just that: horrible, tedious exercise.
I remember a team building event I went to at a Dave & Buster’s in Columbus, OH. And that sounds like it’d be a great time, right? If you’ve never been to a Dave & Busters let me just tell you: it’s AWESOME. There are ton of arcade-style video games, the food is pretty good; it’s a fun place.
But this particular event wasn’t awesome.
Sure, the games were fun and we ate some decent food, but I had to hang around all these people that I work with and talk about work stuff and buzz words and technologies and *BLECH*! Just the memory of that evening is BORING me! Have you ever had to hang out with corporate big wigs and pretend like you love your job? Yeah. That’s what I did for three hours. No amount of 3D video boxing could make up for all the schmoozing and butt-kissing I had to do.
I hate butt-kissing.
I imagine it’d be different if I actually enjoyed the job. Perhaps if I thought of it as a career. But I didn’t. And that evening at Dave & Buster’s was a most tedious night that I will unfortunately remember for the rest of my life.
